2025 Cemetery Walk
The Atlanta Cemetery was established 170 years ago in 1855, two years after the founding of the city of Atlanta in 1853. The first person to be buried was George Washington Gill, from one of the five Founding Families. It is still an active cemetery, open to all denominations.

Much like the artifacts, historical papers, photos and memorabilia, the Atlanta Cemetery has some fascinating stories of our people. The Atlanta Public Musuem is excited to share their stories with you during our 2025 Cemetery Walk.
On our tour, we will meet a group of eight men and women who represent a cross-section of our community's past. Many of these people had long and rich lives, and their stories together will show how they contributed to the growth, diversity, and history in unique and original ways not only in our community but throughout Central IL as well.

The scheduled dates for the 2025 Cemetery Walk will be the first two weekends in October. Saturday, October 4th and 11th and Sundays, October 5th and 12th.
